Employees Fulfill a Family’s Dream

For us Gap Inc.-ers, rolling up our sleeves and “doing what’s right” feels just as good as slipping on a pair of our favorite blues. And we’ve got a pretty solid history of doing both.

For so many of us, making a difference starts in our local communities.

In Fishkill, New York where Gap Inc. operates a distribution center, employees helped make Habitat for Humanity’s 54^th house come to life in the nearby town of Newburgh. Over the past year, nearly every employee has been involved - raising funds ($75,000 to be reached by September 2012!) and volunteering in the building process.  It’s a dream realized for Marlene and her three daughters who can now move out of their small apartment and into a home more than double the size. It’s all theirs, complete with a no-interest mortgage.

Since 2000, we’ve been  proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity through Gap Foundation’s Community Corps program. 

Why?

I think Jim Young, one of our general managers with the distribution team in Fishkill put it best – “Sponsoring an entire home, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, has been an outstanding experience for our team. This has given us an opportunity to support, in very real ways, an organization that has helped so many people in the communities where we live and work.”
